CONSTITUTIONAL CORNER
FACTS ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION
Submitted by Roxane Shilka
Contrary to popular belief, our founders did not just sit down and write our Constitution over a four-month period in 1787 in Philadelphia known as the Constitutional Convention. It took much longer…..about 700 years longer!
Let me explain. You see, until the Declaration of Independence, our founding fathers were well-educated British subjects. They had been taught (British) history and knew their great inheritance of liberties. They drew on the principles from five major documents, that was their legacy and heritage, to write our Constitution for the united States. No, that is not a typo. The word ‘united’ was originally used as an adjective; a descriptive term. Each former colony was created as, and still is, a sovereign and independent State, like the State of France, Germany, or Great Britain. Think how the European Union acts as one for the common good, but is
composed of independent and sovereign states, or countries. The Constitution was designed as a framework for the 13 new sovereign States to cede a little of their authority to create the federal government in order to work together for their common defense and the good of all.
More on the five major documents in the next post!

“For no People will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can they easily be subdued, where Knowledge is diffused and Virtue preserved . On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own Weight, without the Aid of foreign Invaders.”

It's crucial to fill these roles as they serve as a gateway to electing county-level leadership. If you're aware of anyone interested in getting involved and potentially being appointed as a Precinct Committee member (PC), please don't hesitate to reach out. Especially in this pivotal election year, it's vital to ensure active participation."
